THE INFATUATING SOUNDS OF LANII
How does the average listener decide who to stream? Week in and week out, there are dozens of new releases to sort through. Social feeds are stacked with artists promoting their latest projects, trying to remain true to their artistry while cutting through the mainstream noise and the less hungry. East New York's Lanii is one of the MCs starting his own wave instead of riding the expected. Placing his energy into refreshingly eccentric videos and developing a sound like no other, his steadily growing fanbase knows it's only a matter of time until he's on top.
Lanii has proven to be one of the most elevated musical acts coming out of the city this year. His genre-bending sound needs no categorization; his utilization of producers with varying styles and backgrounds has opened up the possibilities of his output. Matching their creativity with his surefire lyricism and dynamic flows has been the basis of the hits he's released thus far. This is a seemingly rare skill in a day and age when producers carry a lot of the music we hear.

Many of his recent releases are alongside his frequent collaborator Barter, another noteworthy MC from Flatbush Brooklyn. On their song "Memoir/ Fendivisu" (prod. by Bounty Hunter), Lanii walks on the hook, employing a bubbly flow so infectious that a listener can't help but bounce. The speed of his deliveries may push some to categorize him as a "mumble rapper," but he's far from. His seamlessly blended lyrics marry the flows of his collaborators and producers so well that it wouldn't be surprising to find fans in a musical trance. Similarly, "Poplan" (prod. by Joe Aste) features the artist rapping with an upbeat vibrancy that leaves the listener infatuated. Lanii never leaves his listeners unfulfilled.
After listening to his most recent release, "Telfar" (prod. by Jaxn), Lanii's consistency is motivational, and listeners should pay attention. Lanii is without a doubt an artist that looks to have some longevity behind his work, and we're excited to keep up with his innovative contributions to hip-hop music.
